Position Summary
The Medical Technical/Paraprofessional/Professional will contribute to a project on building a stroke clinical research network. The appointment will be for 1-year with the opportunity for renewal. The position is covered by full University of Georgia staff benefits. The Medical Technical/Paraprofessional/Professional will work in a highly inter-disciplinary and collaborative environment across multiple institutions (University of Georgia, Emory University, and various Athens local hospitals/clinics/community administrations), including scientists and engineers, clinicians, therapists and other medical professionals. Duties include but are not limited to spearheading the implementation of a stroke patient recruitment network, coordinating faculty and staff in the project team at UGA and Emory sites, visiting/communicating with local partners, including hospitals, clinics, retirement communities, assisting with organizing outreach events, and screening identified patients, building and maintaining patient records, a research participant registry and database. Other duties may include preparing for IRB submissions, administrating behavioral and neurophysiological testing, etc.

Duties/Responsibilities

Communicating with local partners and organizing outreach events:
  • Assisting with event logistics.
  • Coordinating with administration within UGA /Emory and local hospitals/clinics/patient-support organizations/communities in the Greater Athens Area and Northeast Georgia.
  • Creating educational materials and outreaching tools.
Percentage of time 40 Duties/Responsibilities
  • Coordinating project team members and organizing team events .

Building a research participant registry and database:
  • Interviewing and screening research participants.
  • Maintaining participant records.
  • Creating an online registry.
  • Building and creating a participant database.

Assisting preparation of IRB protocols:
  • Assisting with drafting and maintaining IRB protocols.
  • Working with UGA research administration for IRB -related issues.
Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities
Conducting patient screening, coordinating patient testing schedules, and other logistics:
  • Managing patient testing schedules and other logistics when needed.
  • Learning and assisting with neurological and behavioral exams to assess patients' motor and cognitive functions.
  • Learning and assisting with neurophysiological (brain stimulation) and neuroimaging testing when needed.
