Description

The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. is a successful manufacturing social enterprise, with over 60 years of experience in precision machining, that is committed to making jobs accessible to individuals who are blind. Our manufacturing operations center on producing an array of machined parts and plastic injection molding for various aerospace manufacturers, as well as a host of office products and hydration equipment sold to the Federal Government under the AbilityOne Program. The Lighthouse offers Contract Management Support closeout services for commercial, federal, and military customers. We also run a Contact Center, which places and receives inbound and outbound calls for a large span of assorted clients. Lastly, we operate eight AbilityOne Base Supply Centers (BSCs) up and down the west coast that offer easy customer access to Lighthouse products, direct feedback and communication with customers, and employment opportunities for individuals who are blind in geographic areas not served by larger nonprofit agencies.

Purpose:

The Donor Relations Manager, in coordination with the Development Team, is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual donors with an emphasis on growing the base of major and mid-level donors.
This position actively manages a portfolio of 150+ major and annual fund donors, produces major donor proposals, creates donor communications, coordinates direct mail appeals and e-appeals, in coordination with the Development team. Engages Foundation Board members, Board of Trustee members, and the Strategic Leadership Team in developing deeper relationships with individual major donors and prospects. Supports Development Team in planning and executing events, with an emphasis on major donor and annual fund participation and giving at fundraising events. The Donor Relations Manager has the ability to work independently, as well as being a collaborative team member, and is responsive to all stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Mid-Level and Major Donor Development:

  • Create and implement an annual individual giving plan that maximizes financial support from donors at all levels, with an emphasis on mid-level and major donors.
  • Manage a portfolio of 150+ individuals to increase their support strategically and sustainably. Personally solicit and steward key donors.
  • Ensure consistent and meaningful communications with mid-level and major donors and prospects including program updates, customized email communications, and funding proposals and reports.
  • Engage existing mid-level and major donors in key events and introduce new potential donors through events. In coordination with Development team, conceptualize and implement annual Donor Appreciation Event(s); responsible for program identification and creation, increasing attendance at event annually, ensuring that the event appropriate thanks donors for their support in a meaningful way.
  • Assist with site tours for major donors, board members, donor prospects, etc.

Annual Fund

  • In coordination with Development staff, manage direct mail and email campaigns to donors. Create, write, and execute a series of segmented and targeted mail, email, and digital giving campaigns with a high degree of customization and emotional appeal to renew annual contributions, encourage support for special projects and attract new donors. Manage, design, and execute digital giving campaigns for giving days, peer-to-peer fundraising, and end-of-year campaigns.
  • In coordination with Development Team, create and lead comprehensive donor acquisition strategies.
  • Work with the Development Associate to manage list queries and data within Salesforce and Pardot set parameters for list segmentation based on donor giving patterns, demographic, etc.
  • Track and measure Annual Fund performance metrics and ensures that predetermined fundraising goals are met. Provide analysis and information following each annual fund campaign as well as making recommendations for changes or additions.
  • In coordination with Development Team, create and execute workplace giving efforts to engage employees at companies.
  • Collaborate with the Development Team and other departments to identify stories of impact that can be utilized for communications with prospects and donors.

Foundation Board of Directors

  • Support Board Members with the development and implementation of Board driven events in conjunction with the Development Team.
  • In coordination with the Donor Relations Manager, leading the Foundation Board and Executive Staff to execute strategies for major donor cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation. Providing briefing materials, talking points, and other support.
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years experience in managing fundraising programs. Five years desired.
  • Proven track record of developing and sustaining successful relationships with donors.
  • Experience working directly with board members and inspiring their participation in fundraising activities.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written. A high level of comfort with direct donor interaction is a must.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage short term and long term plans and goals.
  • Solid understanding of development principles, protocols and best practices.
  • Strong professional writing and editing skills.
  • Proficient and experienced with Microsoft Office applications; including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Able to work efficiently and effectively with fundraising software.
  • Education: Bachelors degree required: English, Communications, or Marketing major preferred.
  • Flexibility to work in an organization with a small staff and a large group of actively involved board members.
  • Experience with blindness or disability related organization a plus
  • Ability to work schedule as assigned
